Pearson TV, London
Technical Manager
May 1997 to Aug 2001
In 1993 Pearson plc bought Thames TV and became the foundation of Pearson Television

In 1997, Pearson Television sold Teddington Studios to Barnes Trust Media and moved to a new facility in Stephen Street, just off Tottenham Court Road.

Here, the many floors contained: production offices, Channel 5's presentation studio and playout and MCR facilities for approximately 50 satellite and cable channels including all the Flextech output and the Discovery channels.

More importantly for me, on the ground floor, were built 2 fully equiped TV studios. Studio One is roughly 2600 square feet and it's opening co-incided with Channel five going on air in April 1997.
The first live show to be transmitted from there was Five's Company, a mid afternoon magazine show with five presenters! The series was cut short and made way for 'Open House with Gloria Hunniford. 100% for Channel 5 was also made on a regular basis.

In the summer of 1997, studio two started operating. This was slightly smaller at roughly 1500 square feet.
The first show to be recorded was 'Give Us a Clue' for the BBC. Soon after, UK Living moved from Teddington Studios and continued producing shows for a year or so.

My main role was as Studio Vision Engineer, expanding to Studio Technical Manager.
